LONDON, UK — The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a food alert after investigations identified Salmonella Enteritidis contamination in eggs supplied by a Ukrainian food business.
The alert, updated on 10 October 2026, calls on businesses including caterers, manufacturers, wholesalers and other food operators to withdraw affected products from sale while investigations continue.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. Symptoms may include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and vomiting. Some people, including young children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems, may be at greater risk of serious illness.
The FSA’s action highlights the importance of food traceability and rapid product withdrawals when contamination is suspected. Food businesses should check the official alert for the affected product details and follow the agency’s instructions rather than assuming that all eggs are involved.
Consumers should consult the latest FSA notice for product identification and any specific advice before deciding whether an egg product is affected. The alert relates to eggs connected to one Ukrainian business; it does not establish that all Ukrainian eggs or all eggs sold in the UK are contaminated.
The investigation remains important for UK food safety, as authorities and supply-chain businesses work to identify affected products and reduce the risk of contaminated food reaching consumers.
