Tech giant shifts beyond advertising with premium features and AI-powered tools

The move signals Meta’s growing focus on subscription revenue, AI services, creator tools and premium user experiences as it looks to reduce its dependence on advertising income.

Meta Expands AI Investment Despite Criticism

The announcement comes as Meta faces growing scrutiny over its massive AI spending.

The company, led by founder Mark Zuckerberg, has projected annual capital expenditure between:

$125 Billion and $145 Billion

Much of that investment is focused on:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Smart glasses
  • AI assistants
  • Creator tools
  • Next-generation social media technology

Meta recently showcased its new AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses as part of its future AI ecosystem.

Why This Matters

Meta’s subscription strategy could significantly change how users interact with social media platforms.

Industry analysts believe the company is trying to:

  • diversify revenue streams,
  • compete in the AI market,
  • support creators and businesses,
  • and reduce reliance on digital advertising.

The rollout of premium subscriptions may also push other major tech companies to introduce similar paid social media features in the near future.
