NHS Flu Vaccine Booking Opens in England Ahead of Winter

LONDON — NHS England has opened its National Booking Service for the 2026/27 flu vaccination programme, giving eligible people in England an earlier route to arrange their seasonal flu jab.

The booking service opens on 17 August 2026 and is scheduled to remain available until the end of March 2027 as part of the NHS's preparations for the winter period.

The move marks the start of a major national effort to increase flu vaccination uptake before winter pressures build across the NHS.

The programme covers eligible groups and is designed to make vaccination easier to access through digital booking options and participating NHS services.

NHS England is also planning to publish walk-in vaccination information through its “find a flu vaccination service” facility from October, giving people additional ways to locate available services.

GP practices will also be able to offer vaccination appointments through the National Booking Service for their registered patients.

Early vaccination is particularly important for people at higher risk of serious complications from influenza, as well as eligible healthcare workers and other groups included in the national programme.

The NHS is simultaneously preparing for winter pressures across urgent and emergency care, making prevention an important part of the wider seasonal health strategy.

The programme also includes measures aimed at reducing inequalities in vaccination uptake, with NHS England planning targeted communications and additional support for groups that can face barriers to accessing immunisation.

The opening of the booking system therefore represents more than a routine seasonal announcement.

For the NHS, improving flu vaccination coverage could help reduce preventable illness and pressure on healthcare services during another challenging winter.

Eligible people are now being encouraged to check their vaccination options and arrange protection ahead of the main flu season.
