Reform UK Councillor in Trafford Set to Face Court Over Alleged Weapon Offence
A newly elected Reform UK councillor in Trafford is set to appear in court after being charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Billy Burke, 67, from Urmston, secured victory in the Davyhulme ward during May’s local elections by a narrow margin, receiving 1,294 votes just 11 more than his Labour opponent. His election marked one of only two seats won by Reform UK candidates in Trafford.
Burke’s victory was considered one of the biggest surprises of the local election count after he unseated Labour’s deputy mayor and executive member for babies, children and young people, Karina Carter. Despite the setback, Labour continues to hold overall control of Trafford Council.
The councillor, who was born in Moss Side and has previously been involved in grassroots football, has now been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Burke had been charged and released on police bail. He is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 25 August 2026.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “William Burke (28/04/1959) of Woodsend Crescent Road, Urmston, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on 25 August 2026.”
