A serving member of the Royal Navy has been charged under the UK National Security Act following an investigation into allegations involving protected information, British police said on Thursday.

Teddy Young, 24, faces two charges relating to allegedly obtaining protected information and preparing to disclose it for the benefit of a foreign power. Police have not identified the foreign power involved.

Young is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on 8 October. Counter Terrorism Policing London is leading the investigation, with police working alongside relevant Ministry of Defence colleagues.

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, described the allegations as serious and said authorities had taken measures to manage potential risks connected with the case.

Police have stressed that the charges are not connected to the separate investigation surrounding RAF Fairford, where authorities have been examining activity near the Gloucestershire airbase.

The case comes amid heightened UK attention on national security, foreign interference and the protection of sensitive information. The court proceedings are expected to provide further details as the investigation continues.
