Police have launched a murder investigation in Sheffield after a newborn baby girl was found dead at a property, with seven people arrested on suspicion of murder.

South Yorkshire Police were called shortly before 6am on Sunday, 30 August, following concerns about the safety of a newborn baby in the Wincobank area.

Officers searched a property on Holywell Heights, where the baby was found. Despite efforts by police officers and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Officers are still working to establish the ages of some of those arrested and their circumstances.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said the investigation remains in its early stages and urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to come forward as detectives continue their investigation.

The case is expected to remain under close scrutiny as investigators work to establish what happened to the newborn girl.
