A new UK medicine supply warning has been issued for ramipril capsules, one of the widely used medicines for managing high blood pressure and cardiovascular conditions.

The Department of Health and Social Care issued a Tier 2 Medicine Supply Notification on 7 September, covering 1.25mg, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg ramipril capsules. Supplies are expected to remain limited until the end of October 2026.

The notification says ramipril tablets remain available, but supplies may not be sufficient to absorb increased demand. The situation means pharmacies and healthcare professionals may need to manage stocks carefully while normal capsule supplies recover.

The latest warning comes after earlier supply problems involving ramipril, with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England continuing to monitor medicine availability through their national medicines supply system. Community Pharmacy England also confirmed a September update involving ramipril supply and pricing.

For patients, the development highlights the importance of checking with a pharmacist or prescriber before making any changes to regular medication. Patients should not stop taking prescribed blood-pressure medicines without professional medical advice.
