Warning Issued After Children Spotted Near ‘Cold, Deep and Unpredictable’ Leicestershire Lake
Police have issued an urgent safety warning after children were reportedly seen playing near a Leicestershire lake described as dangerous despite its calm appearance.
The warning follows reports of young people gathering around Albert Village Lake near Boothorpe, prompting concerns from officers about the risks associated with open water during warmer weather.
Authorities described the lake as “very cold, deep, and unpredictable,” warning that conditions beneath the surface can quickly become hazardous even when the water appears safe from the shore.
The alert comes during a period of increased concern over water safety following multiple deaths linked to open-water locations across the UK during recent warm weather. Safety organisations have repeatedly urged people to think carefully before entering lakes, rivers, and canals.
Police stressed that activities around the lake may appear harmless but warned they carry serious risks, particularly for children and teenagers who may underestimate the dangers posed by cold-water shock, hidden depths, and changing conditions.
