The UK government has announced more than £1.5 billion in funding to strengthen NHS hospital infrastructure, with over 950 projects planned across England.

The investment is designed to make hospitals safer, more resilient and better equipped, addressing pressures on NHS services throughout the year rather than focusing only on the traditional winter period.

Projects will support improvements to hospital facilities and infrastructure as the NHS prepares for sustained demand. The programme comes as NHS England reports that hospitals experienced their busiest summer on record, with more than 7.2 million A&E attendances between June and August.

The government says the investment is part of a wider effort to improve NHS capacity and ensure healthcare facilities can continue providing care during periods of increased pressure.
