London’s Barbican Centre is preparing for a major four-day arts takeover exploring the power of sound, with Turner Prize-winning artist Lawrence Abu Hamdan leading a new programme across multiple artistic disciplines.

Called “Repercussions,” the event runs from 23 to 26 September 2026 and will combine installation art, live performances, film screenings, music and participatory activities.

The programme is being developed with Earshot and focuses on the idea of sonic rights — examining how sound can influence people's lives, including the effects of noise pollution and the role of silence.

Newly commissioned works will be presented alongside performances and screenings, turning different Barbican spaces into an interdisciplinary arts platform.

The project also explores the relationship between sound, technology, public space and political expression, giving audiences opportunities to engage with the subject through several different art forms.

The Barbican says the takeover marks its first artist-led cross-arts takeover of this kind, bringing together contemporary art, music, film and performance over four days.
