British Art Show 10 has opened in Coventry, bringing together 37 artists in one of the UK’s major contemporary art exhibitions.

Titled “A Chorus of Strangers,” the exhibition opened on 2 October 2026 across the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry University and the Mead Gallery. It presents an overview of contemporary art produced in the UK during the past five years.

Curated by Ekow Eshun, the exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, photography, film and installation. Around one-third of the participating artists have created new work specifically for the exhibition.

The show explores themes including identity, belonging, memory, community and relationships with the natural world. Its organisers say the exhibition considers how art can create connections during a period of social and environmental change.

Coventry is the first stop on the exhibition’s national tour. After closing in the city on 10 January 2027, British Art Show 10 is scheduled to travel to Swansea, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle Gateshead, continuing through 2028.

The launch places Coventry at the centre of the UK’s contemporary art calendar and gives audiences an opportunity to see work from a wide range of established and emerging British artists.
