EU and Anthropic Hold Productive Talks Over Potential Future Access to Mythos

The European Union has confirmed it has held a series of productive discussions with Anthropic regarding potential future access to Mythos, an advanced cybersecurity-focused AI system designed to identify weaknesses in computer code and strengthen digital defenses.

The comments came after reports suggested Anthropic could provide access to Mythos to the EU’s cybersecurity agency as part of a possible future agreement. While no formal arrangement has yet been announced, EU officials signaled that talks are progressing positively.

European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier confirmed that officials had engaged in multiple discussions with Anthropic and welcomed recent developments surrounding potential access to the technology.

Mythos was developed to help cybersecurity teams identify vulnerabilities in software systems and improve protection against cyber threats. When first introduced, some cybersecurity experts expressed concerns that such technology could potentially be misused to identify weaknesses for offensive purposes. However, those concerns have since softened as experts gained a clearer understanding of how the system is intended to operate.

The EU agency expected to receive access to the technology is the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), which plays a key role in coordinating cybersecurity efforts across member states. Any future access arrangement would require further agreement between Anthropic and European authorities.
