A man has admitted carrying out a series of violent assaults after six people were injured during a crowbar attack at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside.
Omar Momand, 20, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court via video link from a secure psychiatric unit. He denied four counts of wounding with intent involving three women and one man but pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding of the same victims.
Momand also admitted assault causing actual bodily harm against another woman, affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, criminal damage to hospital property and possession of cannabis. However, he denied a charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent against a fifth woman and will face trial in September.
The incident occurred on December 30, 2025, when police said Momand became increasingly agitated after being refused an appointment at Newton Community Hospital. Authorities allege he damaged a reception counter before attacking several people with what was believed to be a crowbar.
Six victims suffered injuries including head lacerations, bruising and wounds to their arms and hands. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of the attack.
Judge Stuart Driver KC remanded Momand in custody ahead of a four-to-five-day trial scheduled to begin in the week of September 14.
