Dundee-based Scottish Dance Theatre has received one of the UK’s leading honours in the dance industry after being named Best Mid-Scale Company at the 26th National Dance Awards.
The award marks a significant milestone for the company as it celebrates its 40th anniversary with a year-long programme of performances, creative projects, and community events.
Founded in 1986, Scottish Dance Theatre is one of the UK’s few full-time repertory dance companies. Over the years, it has gained international recognition for its contemporary dance productions, performing across Scotland and worldwide.
From local community venues to major international stages, the company has built a reputation for bringing innovative dance experiences to diverse audiences.
Alongside its performances, Scottish Dance Theatre continues to deliver community engagement programmes, making dance more accessible across Scotland.
The company is now preparing for further anniversary celebrations, including RECollect, a community project inspired by its archives, and a special collaboration with artist and choreographer Florence Peake at Hospitalfield in Arbroath.
As part of Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre, the organisation continues to create and share work with audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.
