McLaren Automotive is set to invest around £500 million in its UK operations, expanding manufacturing and research facilities while creating at least 1,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2032.

The investment includes an expanded research and development and production site in South Yorkshire, alongside plans for a new vehicle production facility in the UK. The programme will also support the development of McLaren's next generation of vehicles, including its first performance SUV.

The company said the investment will strengthen its UK engineering, manufacturing and powertrain capabilities. Up to 3,000 additional supply-chain jobs could also be supported as the programme develops.

The announcement comes as the UK automotive industry faces pressure over manufacturing costs, electric-vehicle transition and international competition. McLaren's expansion provides a fresh focus on UK automotive manufacturing, advanced engineering and high-value jobs.
