When many people think of speed cameras in the UK, major cities like London, Manchester, or Birmingham often come to mind. However, new figures suggest that another city has taken the top spot for traffic enforcement coverage.
Bradford has emerged as the UK’s speed camera capital, recording the highest concentration of speed cameras per square mile anywhere in the country. The West Yorkshire city now leads national rankings, highlighting the scale of monitoring across its road network.
According to the figures, Bradford has an average of 2.18 speed cameras per square mile, placing it ahead of London despite the capital’s much larger size and heavier traffic volumes. London ranks second on the list with 1.93 cameras per square mile.
The findings show that camera placement density, rather than total city size, plays a major role in determining traffic enforcement coverage. Bradford’s concentration of cameras means drivers are more likely to encounter monitoring systems across shorter distances compared with many larger urban areas.
Speed cameras are often introduced to improve road safety, reduce speeding incidents, and lower accident rates. However, their growing presence continues to generate debate among motorists over enforcement levels and road surveillance.
