BCLP Confirms £125K Pay Rise for Newly Qualified Lawyers Earlier This Year
BCLP has confirmed that newly qualified lawyers in its London offices are now earning £125,000 following a salary increase introduced earlier this year, highlighting the continued competition for legal talent among major firms.
The latest increase represents a £10,000 rise from the previous salary level of £115,000 — an increase of nearly 9%. The move places BCLP’s newly qualified lawyer pay in line with several competitors as firms continue adjusting compensation packages to attract and retain top graduates.
The updated salary structure means BCLP’s first-year associate pay now matches firms such as Reed Smith, while moving ahead of some rivals in the market, including firms offering slightly lower newly qualified packages.
The pay increases extend beyond newly qualified solicitors. London-based trainee lawyers also received salary boosts earlier this year, with first-year trainees now earning £55,000, up from £50,000, while second-year trainees now receive £58,000, compared with the previous £55,000.
Outside London, pay levels remain lower but have also been updated. In Manchester, first-year trainees earn £33,000, rising to £37,000 in their second year, while newly qualified lawyers receive salaries of £72,000 upon qualification.
