London’s Southbank Centre is opening a new series of free interactive art experiences today, bringing contemporary visual art, sound and public participation together on the Thames.

From 26 August, visitors can experience Luke Jerram’s “Stepping Out”, an interactive installation combining movement and music, alongside “TONIC FLOW: A Communal Chorus in Colour and Sound” and “Floating Together,” a new artwork inspired by people who have sought sanctuary. The programmes run through September.

The new projects reflect a growing push to make contemporary art more accessible and participatory, rather than limiting exhibitions to traditional gallery spaces.

The Southbank Centre says the installations form part of its wider programme connecting creativity with society and encouraging audiences to experience art in different ways.

The new programme gives London audiences an opportunity to engage directly with contemporary art while keeping the experience free and accessible.

The launch also highlights London's continuing role as a major centre for experimental and public-facing arts in the UK.
