AI, Chemicals and Biotech Projects Secure £23.7 Million to Transform Research Into High-Quality Jobs

Two major technology-focused projects in Liverpool have secured more than £23 million in funding aimed at turning scientific research into thriving businesses, supporting innovation, and creating high-quality jobs across the region.

The announcement comes as Liverpool launches its Innovation Investment Fortnight, a campaign designed to highlight more than £2 billion worth of investment opportunities through over 25 events focused on business growth, technology, and research partnerships.

Regional leaders confirmed that two projects will receive a combined £23.7 million through the Government’s Local Innovation Partnership Fund. The funding initiative is intended to strengthen innovation clusters across the UK by encouraging closer collaboration between universities, researchers, and private businesses.

Officials say the investment will support fast-growing sectors including artificial intelligence, chemicals, and biotechnology — industries viewed as critical to future economic growth and global competitiveness.

Supporters of the funding package believe strengthening links between research institutions and businesses can accelerate commercial innovation while creating skilled employment opportunities across the city region.

The investment is also expected to reinforce Liverpool’s ambitions to position itself as a leading hub for science, technology, and advanced manufacturing, helping attract additional investment and talent in the years ahead.

As innovation-led industries continue expanding, policymakers hope projects supported through the fund will create long-term economic benefits while helping transform research breakthroughs into commercially successful enterprises.
