Entain, the company behind Ladbrokes and Coral, has announced plans to cut around 400 customer-care jobs, representing roughly one-fifth of its customer-care workforce.

The company said it has started a consultation process as it restructures its customer-care operations across several locations. Entain said the changes are intended to help it remain competitive and financially resilient amid a challenging operating environment.

The announcement comes as the gambling industry faces higher UK taxes. Entain has also written to Prime Minister Andy Burnham warning about the potential impact of further increases, particularly a possible rise in Machine Games Duty.

Entain recently reported £479 million in profit for the first six months of 2026, according to the Guardian. The company says the latest restructuring reflects pressure from the changing regulatory and tax environment rather than a lack of recent profitability.

The issue could remain significant ahead of the 28 October UK Budget, with the government considering further changes to gambling taxation.
