A major section of the M2 motorway in Kent has reopened following emergency resurfacing works, bringing an end to several days of traffic disruption after a fatal collision.

The coastbound carriageway between Chatham and Sittingbourne reopened at approximately 5am on Friday, 30 October, after overnight repair work carried out by National Highways.

The motorway had been affected since Tuesday evening following a fatal incident near Medway Services, where a man in his 50s was struck by a heavy goods vehicle and other vehicles while on the carriageway.

Kent Police confirmed that the pedestrian died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed again on Thursday evening to allow emergency resurfacing work to take place, with all coastbound lanes subsequently reopened.

Kent Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage that could help establish the circumstances of the fatal collision.

The reopening will provide relief for motorists and businesses affected by the disruption, although drivers are advised to remain alert and follow any local traffic instructions.
